Hangers101 & A Litany of Hashtags at Local Project June 15th

    Dear Friends and Supporters

I am please to  present the performance Hangers 101 & A Litany of Hashtags as part of
Back to the Future with performances curated by Matti Havens
    June 15th at 7pm
At Local Project, 11-27th 44th Rd
    Long Island City, Queens

Hangers 101 & A Litany of Hashtagsan interdisciplinary, participatory project based on the current political/social climate.
Phase one began on the first day of the new administration. For 100 days I create sculptural elements from hangers and other material, inspired, in part, by the news of the day.
In the studio or out in the street, I made a daily visual gesture and invited participants to pose with or add to the sculptures while asking their thoughts on the current state of affairs.
These thoughts are translated into hashtags, such as #climatechange #womensrighttochoose, #agaistthewall #peace among others and are shared via Instagram @mcayer27
    as photography accompanied by hashtags.
Phase two of Hangers 101 took place at the Glasshouse Neo-Domesticity Performance Art Festival with “A Litany of Hashtags” which premiers at the 11th hour of my 12 hours action as well as
during the Bergen Art Festival in Norway and the New York Studio School exhibition.

    The performance,
A Litany of Hashtags includes a monologue created from a selection of responses participants gave me regarding their thoughts and feelings about what is happening around us and in the world.

Back to the Future is an evening of performance art at Local Project. It will celebrate our potential and also address our concerns for the future while looking back at our past.
This project is part of Local Project's Emerging Curators Program 2019.
Thank you for your continuous support
    Marie Christine
